The Lincoln Group was founded in 1935, and is a non-profit, historical society with a nationwide membership devoted to the study of Abraham Lincoln. It holds monthly dinner programs (except during June, July and August) in Washington, D.C., featuring nationally and locally recognized Lincoln scholars and specialists. In addition, The Lincoln Group sponsors a variety of Lincoln-related social events throughout the year, and membership includes a June picnic at an historic site in the Washington, D.C., area and a subscription to The Lincolnian, our bi-monthly newsletter.

The Lincoln Group of the District of Columbia is the oldest, continuously active Lincoln society in America. It is actively involved in supporting the preservation of historic monuments and battlefields and in assisting authors, writers and lecturers in their research by providing them with historic information and sources. The Lincoln Group played a key role in the major, three-volume reference work, Lincoln Day by Day 1809 – 1865, and has been publicly credited with being instrumental in the decision to permanently illuminate the Lincoln Memorial at night.

The Lincoln Group has been honored by Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and George W. Bush.
