LINCOLN GROUP OF WASHINGTON ANNUAL PICNIC & TOUR

Mark Saturday, June 9 on your calendars right now.  That's the day when the Lincoln Group of DC will have our annual Picnic & Tour.

This year LGDC Tour Director Craig Howell will take us up to historic Fort McHenry and dramatic Federal Hill overlooking the Baltimore Harbor.  Craig will lead a discussion of Baltimore's political evolution during the Civil War, from the early days when Union General Benjamin F. Butler unilaterally seized Federal Hill and trained his guns on the city to keep rebellious citizens at bay, through the still-controversial imprisonment of political prisoners at Fort McHenry, and onto the end of the war, when pro-Unionist elements asserted political dominance.

Like last year, we will be seeking drivers to help in a carpool to get our members and guests to Baltimore.  Still to be decided is whether we will have a traditional picnic in a park (with all the conveniences) near Federal Hill and Fort McHenry, or whether, like last year, we'll lunch inside one of the many restaurants in the neighborhood.  Further details will be announced as such decisions are made.
