Abraham Lincoln on the 8th Judicial Circuit
The Lincoln Group of DC is pleased to welcome Guy Fraker as our December 4, 2018 speaker. Fraker is the world’s expert on Abraham Lincoln’s career as a lawyer (and sometimes judge!) on the 8th Judicial Circuit in central Illinois. He will present a lively romp through Lincoln’s life on the road, which took him away from home for a total of six months out of every year. He has written extensively on the topic. He wrote Lincoln’s Ladder to the Presidency, the bible of books about Lincoln’s time as a lawyer. His most recent book is Looking for Lincoln in Illinois: A Guide to Lincoln’s Eighth Judicial Circuit.
Guy Fraker practiced law in Bloomington, Illinois since 1962 and thus has first-hand knowledge of all of the counties that made up the circuit during Lincoln’s time. He has personally led over 50 tours of the circuit, most notably the tour he gave to 22 members of the Lincoln Group of DC two years ago. He has served as Chairman of “Looking for Lincoln,” the organization responsible for all those roadside Waymarking signs providing information about Lincoln’s life throughout Illinois. He was also consultant to the award-winning PBS series “Prelude to the Presidency” and co-curator of the “Prologue to the Presidency” permanent exhibit at the David Davis Mansion.
